We’ve kind of figured that if you’re here looking for raw cakes, maybe it’s not a bad thing to talk a bit about what exactly is that.
First of all, we must go a little into detail about what a raw diet is. The raw food diet has been around since the 1800s but has surged in popularity in recent years. Followers of the diet believe that consuming mostly raw foods is ideal for human health and has many benefits, including weight loss and better overall health.
A food is considered raw if it has never been heated over 104–118°F (40–48°C). It should also not be refined, pasteurized, treated with pesticides or otherwise processed in any way. Instead, the diet allows several alternative preparation methods, such as juicing, blending, dehydrating, soaking and sprouting.
Similar to veganism, the raw food diet is usually plant-based, being made up mostly of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. While most raw food diets are completely plant-based, some people also consume raw eggs and dairy. Less commonly, raw fish and meat may be included as well.
So how can you make a cake without baking it?
Often described as “conscious desserts”, raw cakes are free from wheat, gluten, egg, dairy, soy and refined sugar. Raw cakes are made with a mix of fruit (both fresh and dried), nuts, seeds, vegan products (butter and milk), but also spices and superfoods.
As for the process itself, it’s important to know that no baking is involved. Instead, all ingredients are perfectly blended, poured into cake tins, and then frozen until they reach the perfect consistency. This process is bound to create balanced and nutritious cakes.
The main amazing thing about raw cakes if they are full of high-quality, natural, and living ingredients, which are amazing for your body and your mind. They are also not hurting the environment! Furthermore, raw cakes are processed at temperatures below 46 degrees Celsius in order to retain all their valuable minerals, enzymes, antioxidants, nutrients and vitamins.
So, as we were saying, instead of baking, raw cakes are frozen – but no, that doesn’t mean you eat them like ice cream. What you do is let the cake defrost for a couple of hours, to make sure you enjoy it in its best form, after which it can last for a few days in the fridge. No melting, no spills, no spoiling – everything will keep fresh, tasty, and super nutritious!
Basically, with raw caked you get not only a super delicious dessert but also a super balanced, healthy treat: all the fruit and nuts involved in making the cake guarantee that you get a lot of fibre, minerals, enzymes, antioxidants, nutrients, and vitamins!
